How to Achieve and Maintain Good Business Image
A good image is what all businesses desire. No customer would want to purchase a product with low quality, and which is harmful to the environment. Organizations do their best to protect the name of their products. If there is any bad publicity about the organization, the management will do its best to reverse its effects.
Once consumers find out something bad about the product, they will no longer patronize it. As depicted in the film, Blood Diamond, when the market realized that people are dying in search for the precious stone, they stopped buying it. The public and government officials got involved. Laws were passed to make sure that the rights of everyone were protected.
Other things cause bad business image. This includes the behavior of the employees, the materials used in production, inhumane leadership, and other negative activities involved in the operation of the organization. Most of the consumers care about what they support, no matter how good the product is if its operation is abusive to anyone, they will not support it.
The PR jobs revolve around making the business look good. Their image has to be pleasing to investors, employees, and consumers.
The business must look good for potential investors in order to gain their confidence. If you are going to invest in something, you want to make sure that the company earns income in a decent manner. You would also want to make sure that the establishment would be able to take care of your investment. They must be competent enough to handle money issues.
Employees have to be pleased about the organization as well. Since the human resources are the most important asset of any company, they have to make sure that their employees trust them. If the employees do not trust their organization, the turnover rate will be soaring. Their competent employees will look for better employment. Finally, the labor force will not be giving their best performance.
Most importantly, consumers should find the organization appealing. As a consumer, we feel that if we purchase products that cause negativity, we contributed in the negative results. If we want to contribute anything, we want it to be good. Once we find out that the company we support was able to help children through a foundation, we feel that we have helped those kids as well.
However, how do you achieve a good image? There are different cases in which you will need to establish a good image. In grocery stores, you can hire someone to do retail PR jobs. In the entertainment business, you need a good manager to hook you up with different personalities in the industry.
If you have good image, the challenge is to maintain it. However, if your public image has gone wrong, you have to find a way to make it right. You are probably aware that Britney Spears has been cleaning her act after having a series of bad publicity in the past year. We are also aware that she is slowly getting her act back, emphasis on slowly. She did not do it over night, and she had a lot of help and support.
Just like the entertainment industry, the corporate world also has to maintain their good image or turn it around when not. Here are some helpful tips to achieve a good image and ways to maintain it:
1. Maintaining a good image for your business will not be difficult if you make it a way of life. If you apply good practices in the workplace, it will not be difficult to achieve a good image. The best way to achieve a good image is to live by the good principles.
2. Apply acceptable principles in the workplace. It does not matter if you are doing entry level PR jobs or the higher level PR jobs. Everyone in the industry should make sure that businesses are not exploiting anyone. Most of the time, things go wrong in the business because of greed. They want to increase production at the expense of the employees.
3. Another way of ensuring a good image is to make sure that your products deliver what they claim. If you claim that the fragrance of the perfume will last twenty-four hours, it should last that long. You should not promise what your product is not because consumers will find out eventually. Once they do, they will think that everything you said about the product is a lie. Your sales may increase after making false claims, but the increase in sales will be short lived.
4. Think how your customers would react to your actions. In terms of image, the perception of your customers is what really matters. Before making big changes about your products, study the response of your consumers. How would they feel if you eliminate the classic flavor from your product line? In professional league for example, those who have sports public relation jobs investigate how fans would react if they trade a certain player. Would it affect the attendance in each game? Will sponsors continue their support?
5. Another way to maintain good business image is to care for the community. People appreciate organizations that give back to the community. It does not have to be grand and big. You can start with eco-friendly materials and letting people know why you are using it. You can also include public awareness in your ads. You can promote healthy living and ways to achieve it.
Just like respect, you have to earn good business image. The industry will not hand it to you overnight. Your business has to prove itself first before you can really create a name for your business. Once you have built its name, you have to protect it. This will not be very difficult to do if you live by what is right. This means that you have to be honest, you need to have integrity, and make sure that you respect your employees as individuals.
